Crystal Clear Instant Spray Tan works on the outer layers of the Epidermis. The tanning solution is projected onto the skin in a fine mist to ensure even tanning.

One of the active ingredients within the tanning solution is
dihydroxyacetone (DHA), a colourless sugar that interacts with the dead skin cells. This causes a colour change to occur which results in the appearance of tanned skin. The amount of DHA determines the depth of the tan, with results normally lasting 7 to 10 days.

Just like a normal tan, the skin cells are sloughed away causing the fake tan to fade in the same way as a sun tan.
